Sailing in Croatia: Places Where You Don’t Have to Be Overwhelmed by the Crowds!
These places are beautiful, yet still somewhat off the tourist radar. Many of these spots are best accessed by boat. We present to you the islands, towns, and bays of Croatia where you can enjoy your visit in peace and tranquility.
Day 1: Seget Donji – Island of Šolta, Village of Stomorska
We traditionally start our vacation in Seget Donji, a village close to Split Airport, where most of our boats are moored. Here, you will board your yacht and set sail towards the island of Šolta. You will find charming bays and beautiful pebble beaches, and we definitely recommend taking a walk on land as the nature here is stunning. You should not miss a visit to the village of Stomorska, one of the oldest villages on Šolta (originally a settlement of sailors and fishermen) known for its peaceful atmosphere. You can swim here and then relax in one of the waterfront restaurants.
Day 2: Island of Hvar – Towns of Jelsa and Vrboska
The second day is dedicated to the island of Hvar. Here, we recommend two old, originally fishing villages – Jelsa and Vrboska. Jelsa is a charming town with a traditional atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful nature. You can extend your time in the town with a walk along the sea shore lined with pine forests. Similarly tranquil is the resort town of Vrboska, which is nicknamed Little Venice due to its Renaissance architecture and narrow canals with typical bridges. If you love wine, be sure to visit one of the local vineyards!
Day 3: Island of Vis – Towns of Rukavac and Komiža
Another peaceful Croatian village, this time on the island of Vis, is Rukavac. You will find several beautiful beaches here, so if you plan to spend the day relaxing on the beach, you will definitely like it here. A few kilometers away lies one of the most photogenic beaches in Croatia, Stiniva (you can read about what the island of Vis offers in the article Beautiful Beaches, Peace, and Great Wine? Exactly What Croatian Vis Offers). Rukavac is also an excellent starting point for visiting some of the surrounding caves – whether it's the Green Cave on the island of Ravnik or the Blue Cave on the islet of Biševo. In Komiža, a charming town rich in history and culture, we recommend going for dinner. Komiža was one of the significant fishing centers in the Adriatic, and in the local restaurants, you can still taste excellent fresh fish.
Day 4: Island of Lastovo – Bay of Zaklopatica and Town of Lastovo
Zaklopatica will dazzle you! This beautiful bay is located in the north of the island of Lastovo. It offers crystal clear water, ideal for swimming or diving. The medieval town of Lastovo, which impressively sprawls on a steep slope among surrounding hills, is also worth a visit. This place has been famous for centuries for fishing as well as producing excellent wine. We recommend combining both during lunch or dinner!
Day 5: Island of Korčula – Towns of Račišće and Lumbarda
The traditional harbor with a peaceful atmosphere, Račišće, is located on the northern coast of the island. The bay of the same name is a highly sought-after, safe anchorage. For beautiful sandy beaches, we recommend heading to Lumbarda. And, of course, not just for the beaches! The entire island of Korčula is known for producing excellent white wines, and Lumbarda is famous for its vineyards! You can end your vineyard walk with a pleasant tasting.
Day 6: Pelješac Peninsula – Towns of Ston and Orebič
If your heart prefers red wines, you will feel like you are in paradise at the next stop – the Pelješac Peninsula. This is where the best Croatian red wines are born – Dingač, Postup, Plavac, and dessert Prošek. However, the historic town of Ston, known for its over 5 kilometers long city walls, is definitely worth a visit. Also, the oyster farms, whose produce you should definitely taste! For swimming and relaxation, the beaches near the port town of Orebič are ideal.
Day 7: Return to Seget Donji
On the way back to the marina, you can stop in one of the picturesque bays along the coast to relax or take one last swim. After docking in the port of Seget Donji, you can symbolically say goodbye to this beautiful journey with an experiential evening in one of the local restaurants.
